BOLD Members And Alumni Share Remote Internship Experiences
Last Tuesday, September 8th , BOLD kicked off the Fall semester by holding a summer internship panel during their first general meeting. The panelists included Carlos Ortiz, a Congressional Communications Intern for U.S. Representative Debbie Mucarsel-Powell; Maria Vargas, a Creative Intern for the G.R.O.W.T.H Initiative; and Anjali Caicedo, a LIFT-DC intern. The panel focused on remote internships and panelists discussed how they were able to navigate through this new digital normal.
“I always like to look for a silver lining and completing an internship during this pandemic gave me the chance to complete a Washington D.C-based internship from the comfort of my home here in Miami,” said Carlos Ortiz. Panelists discussed the pros and cons of online internships, such as being able to work comfortably from home but also experiencing the struggle of separating work from personal life.
Part of BOLD’s purpose is to prepare the next generation of communication professionals to enter the workforce. Familiar with many industry concepts, Maria Vargas was able to confidently take on her creative internship tasks due to her experience at BOLD. Anjali Caicedo reassured members that even if they didn’t go into the communications or advertising industry, BOLD provided professional skills that were transferable to multiple industries.
Reassured by the panel, students left the meeting knowing that their time at BOLD will provide them with the tools and experiences needed for excelling in any internship or job opportunity.
