BOLD Kicks Off the Semester with Andres Camacho, Assistant Account Executive at WKNY

On Tuesday, September 6th, BOLD welcomed their first guest speaker of the semester, Andres Camacho. He is a BOLD alumnus who returned to the agency to offer his insight into working as an assistant account executive at Wieden + Kennedy. BOLD had the opportunity to hear about Camacho’s journey within different work experiences and what his current position entails.

Andres Camacho kicked off his presentation by introducing himself and his interests. A very important value of his is to create social change through different cultures. Moving into his college life, Camacho earned an A.A in Mass Communications from Miami Dade College and graduated from Florida International University with a Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Advertising, and Applied Communications in the Spring of 2021. During his time at FIU, Camacho was the Director of Community and Social Impact for the American Marketing Association. Alongside this, he was a Public Relations Intern, Social Media Intern, and an Account Supervisor during his time within BOLD.

Prior to landing his current position at Wieden + Kennedy, Camacho outlined the previous internships he had partaken in. This includes Boden Agency where he was an account coordinator, SocietyROW, and Slam Marketing and Media where he was a Brand Ambassador for La Lechonera. Each internship offered him a different experience and insight into the world of communications. Moving forward, the agency had the pleasure to hear about his journey so far within Wieden + Kennedy. Andres Camacho currently works remotely for the New York branch and signed an offer letter to be a full-time employee a year ago.

As an assistant account executive, Camacho is currently working with Delta Airlines. He attended ‘Delta Day’, an on-boarding event in which he had the opportunity of learning about himself and the business. The latest campaign his team worked on is “Start Your Odyssey”. The campaign went live in June and the ad had a voice-over by Viola Davis. Andres Camacho briefly mentioned their current campaign titled “Will to Fly” which is a collaboration with the Olympics. Within this campaign, he created the deliverable sheet, did admin work with the traffic director, and worked with different influencers.

Andres Camacho closed off his presentation by describing the differences between agency life, what to expect, and tips to keep in mind when working within the industry. He mentions how he has found agency life to be fulfilling and rewarding despite the challenges. Camacho has had to learn multiple acronyms that are constantly used in his line of work. The BOLD agency was able to learn the benefits of having a healthy work and life balance and now has a better insight into what a job after graduation may look like. The members were highly engaged throughout and were given the ability to ask questions at the end to enhance what they had just learned.
