BOLD Members Learn About Local Agencies And Unique Opportunities In Their Own Community
This Tuesday, March 9th, Director of Accounts, Maria Duque, and Director of Operations, Patricia Menendez, led a virtual agency tour to show BOLD members the top agencies in Miami. This year, due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, BOLD was not able to host its annual NYC agency trip which gives BOLD members the opportunity to visit and experience the biggest agencies in the nation nor were we able to visit local agencies. With summer approaching and internship applications closing rapidly, the BOLD team took an opportunity to show members the amazing opportunities offered in our own city. The agencies featured included: Republica Havas, Edelman, Alma Agency, Zubi Advertising, Roar Media, rbb Communications, and WOW MKTG.
Maria kicked off the meeting with Multicultural Creative Media, & Communications Agency, Republica Havas which boasts notable clients such as Four Seasons, Toyota, and Sedano’s. Mostly targeting the Hispanic market in the US, Republica Havas delivers campaigns in both English and Spanish. “Companies know that the Hispanic market is growing and that it’s an important market to be targeting so they look for agencies that are skilled in targeting that specific market and writing these ads in Spanish,” said Maria. Multicultural agencies serve as great opportunities for FIU’s diverse and mostly bilingual student body.
Next up on the list was Public Relations and Marketing Consulting Firm, Edelman. One of the biggest agencies in the world, Edelman works with clients such as Starbucks, and United Airlines. Former BOLD President, Valentina Lara, is an Account Executive for Edelman Miami and has attended various BOLD meetings to talk about her experiences working at the agency. Highlighted by Patricia in the Opportunities Calendar on the BOLD Brew, applications for Edelman’s Summer Internship are currently open. Patricia encouraged BOLD members to apply to the internship and to reach out to Valentina as a resource for the application process. With more and more BOLD alumni entering the workforce, BOLD has built a strong network of professionals all over the country. This network has provided BOLD members with exclusive advice and career-changing opportunities that kick off their careers.
Another agency with BOLD talent is WOW MKTG where former BOLD Director of Accounts, Dillon DiBartolomeo, who serves as an Account Coordinator. Some of WOW MKTG’s clients include Maserati, Miami Marlins, Walt Disney World, and Budweiser. The agency has a summer internship program called The Ship which follows interns around all summer to create mini episodes showing their learning process and transition to marketing professionals.
Patricia and Maria concluded by sharing the following job hunting tips:
- Follow agencies you like on LinkedIn.
- Keep an eye on their websites.
- Use your FIU connections.
- Message the head of the department you applied to.
- When there are no opportunities currently available, submit your resume regardless.
