BOLD Scored a Touchdown With Their Ultimate Super Bowl Smackdown Meeting

On Tuesday, February 15th, BOLD showcased a lineup of advertisements shown during this year’s Super Bowl LVI. Participants were excited to discuss some of the most humorous, breath-taking, and even what some might consider lack-luster campaigns as they were able to analyze each media through an advertising, marketing, and creative lens. With this lineup, members debated on which commercial would take the trophy home for the win.

The first half compiled pairs of buzzing commercials during the annual football event. This portion of the night included major brands like Lays, Squarespace, Planet Fitness, and many more. Members were active to mention how some commercials made more logical sense, while others took a comedic or untraditional route, such as the Coinbase QR Code Ad. Others voiced that when ads implemented a notable celebrity, they felt that they scored well with the overall reception of the product and remembrance of the brand. Conclusively, the tournament came down to the Lay’s “Golden Memories” ad as the favorable winner of this event.

This meeting then shifted its focus on entertainment and discussed the highlights of the Pepsi Halftime Show. The show consisted of a musical performance by Dr. Dre, Kendrick Lamar, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, Eminem, and guest appearances by 50 Cent and Anderson Paak. There was an exchange in regards to the show’s overall performance value, set-up, quality, and featured artists. Members appreciated how the show connected with the Super Bowl’s location in California with some of LA’s biggest stars and the homage to its culture. When critiquing the overall performance, some members suggested that there should have been more choreography in the production throughout each of the artist’s performances, while others thought it was appropriate for the amount of musicians on stage. By the end of the discussion, BOLD members gave this halftime show their seal of approval.

The night wrapped up with its second half discussing the overall impressions members had of the Super Bowl Sunday programming. The organization concluded that the Super Bowl incorporated a great variety of engaging and interesting ads, a standard football game, and an entertaining halftime show. Members exercised their industry knowledge through engaging commentary and were highly excited for BOLD’s next Super Bowl Smackdown.
