Claudia Camargo Shares Multicultural Excitement with Target’s Latest Campaign
Claudia Camargo, the Multicultural Creative Lead at Target Inc. was invited to speak on Tuesday, October 12th. As she discussed more about her professional experiences and personal passions, the presentation included many moments of inspiration, inclusion, and insight within the DEI field for our BOLD members.
Living as a Colombian-American, Claudia had the opportunity to branch out in multiple cities throughout the U.S. while being able to celebrate the diversity around her. Particularly within the Latino community, she “became a melting pot of cultures that made [her] fluent in Spanglish” (Camargo). In terms of work experience, Claudia has grown within various positions inside the overall creative communication space. As she has touched areas such as art direction, strategy, and digital media, her current focus centers around the creative trajectory and overall leadership within the Target corporation. Claudia was passionate about expanding on multicultural celebrations, which led to the creation of her own position at Target. Pitching and building the role of Multicultural Creative Lead was a success, as it now has a team to assist in creating audience specific topics and spotlights.
Considering the commemoration of Latinx Heritage Month ranging from September 15 to October 15, Claudia’s dedication to allowing all voices from the diaspora of the Latinx community to truly unite, really hit the mark on Target’s latest campaign, Más Que A Month. From emphasizing the significance behind proper representation, to collaborating with those within the community as well as allies who continue to support, it was Claudia’s top mission to host a vibrant amount of inclusion. Aside from going in depth about the creative collection that Target currently offers in stores, Claudia opened space to highlight two Venezuelan designers and the manifesto behind the overall campaign. As the collection provided the opportunity to share all walks of Latinx life to the general public, Claudia and her multicultural team brought culture and richness to Target ads, website landing pages, and in-store marketing.
Claudia Camargo finished the presentation with a contemporary music piece in collaboration with Más Que A Month and native Latinx creators. It was great to see the behind-the-scenes of a successful campaign development and BOLD valued the visionary advice given through a multicultural creative lens.
