Domingo Echagüe, Art Director at Marino PR, Offers Creative Guidance as our Semester’s First Guest Speaker
On Tuesday, September 7th, the BOLD semester started off strong with its collaboration efforts, inviting Domingo Echagüe, Art Director at Marino PR to be the first guest speaker of Fall 2021. During this meeting, members learned insightful details, experiences, and further aspirations of the former FIU graduate.
The “What’s BOLD Tonight?” segment included the opportunity for general members to win a top prize living inside every college student’s mind – coffee. Showcased for the first time this semester was the segment’s trivia feature, BOLD Brew Trivia, where members are asked to answer trivia questions based on the BOLD Brew, a curated newsletter shared to members on a weekly basis. Considering the BOLD Brew’s first publication of the fall season being released last week Thursday, many were glad to participate. BOLD congratulated Jennifer Solares with a Starbucks gift card as the first winner of BOLD Brew Trivia.
Domingo Echagüe kicked off the meeting by introducing himself and his educational background. Stemming from an A.A. degree at Miami Dade College and a B.S. degree in Communications (Advertising) at FIU, Echagüe climbed his way through the various positions that helped mold his expertise today. Wearing many hats throughout his past experience, Echagüe worked from a Cell Programmer to a Graphic Designer to currently being the Art Director at a strategic communications firm. As the need for creative services have increased within the communications industry, overseeing branding, social media strategy, and digital ads for prospective clients engages Echagüe in his day-to-day duties. Top projects that he has been fortunate enough to work on include the Johnnie Walker Bar, the Bono USA Inc. rebrand, and the Servia campaign.
As the meeting concluded, Domingo Echagüe left BOLD with captivating lessons to learn about the industry for those who will soon enter the work field. One memorable takeaway was to stay active and to always “keep moving out of your comfort zone” (Echagüe). The art director reaffirms BOLD students that some “might not feel ready all the time, but [to ultimately just] do it!” BOLD members were highly engaged during the question and answer session, where Domingo shared insight on what makes a creative director different from an art director, the creative process behind a finished graphic, and leadership responsibilities to run a well-oiled team.
