Event Marketing Specialist, Tiffany Gonzalez, Talked to BOLD Students About Her Career in the Public Relations and Event Marketing Space
BOLD was joined by FIU alumna, Tiffany Gonzalez on Tuesday, April 6th to talk about her experiences in the event marketing space as well as her current role as the EV Marketing Manager for Nissan and Volvo. The FIU alumna joined BOLD on the second to the last meeting of the semester and shared some tips that helped her get to where she is now.
Starting out her career working for public relations agencies including Identity Media PR and BubbleFish Media PR, Tiffany worked with clients such as Mercedes Benz, Nicolita, and Batch Gastropub. After some time in the public relations space, Tiffany decided to make the transition into the in-house marketing sector where she worked for One Park Financial and helped create their marketing sector. “This was my stepping stone job, I knew I needed to get my start in the corporate world because I had been working in agencies for so long and that is completely different from a public relations and communications standpoint,” said Tiffany about her role in One Park Financial.
In talking about her role as the Event Manager for Macy’s, Tiffany shared several stories and pictures of the various events she helped plan for the department store. One of those events was the Nick Jonas fragrance launch with John Varvatos. “I had done big events before, but I had never done an event with a celebrity with such a large following, this was pure craziness, they sold over $100,000 of revenue on that day alone,” said Tiffany. Other events Tifanny planned included several fashion events for Macy’s clothing and events celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month and Three King’s Day to target the Hispanic population.
Tiffany concluded her presentation by sharing some tips and tricks for upcoming graduates that helped her reach success in her career. “I cannot stress enough how important interning is, it is by far the best thing you can be doing,” expressed Tifanny. Working with several interns of her own, Tiffany knows first-hand how important it is for graduates and students to gain valuable experience to prepare them for the competitive job market ahead. “That internship and experience can only make you more marketable for future employees, the more internships and work experience you have the better,” she exclaimed. She also encouraged students, especially those pursuing jobs in public relations and communications to keep a portfolio of all their work as a competitive advantage over other applicants. Tiffany urged all BOLD students to continue to gain experience outside of their classes and to reach out to her and other people in their desired fields for advice along the way.
